Provides contraception. Oral medroxyprogesterone has different indications and instructions.

A healthcare professional gives the injection on the prescribed schedule, usually every three months. Late injections require advice about backup and pregnancy testing.

Review clotting history, liver disease, unexplained bleeding, cancer and bone health.

Irregular or absent periods, headache and weight changes.

Seek care for chest symptoms, severe headache or vision changes. Long-term use can reduce bone density.

Provide a complete medication list before each review.

Avoid pregnancy; discuss postpartum timing and breastfeeding individually.
