Contraception Treatment Online — Ontario Virtual Care

See a licensed pharmacist online for contraception — no waiting room, no travel.

Choosing a contraception method means weighing effectiveness, how much daily effort you want to put in, and your own health history. Options range from long-acting reversible methods like the implant or an IUD, which last years and don't rely on remembering anything, to daily pills, patches, or rings that need consistent use. The right choice also depends on things doctors call medical eligibility — for example, combined hormonal methods aren't recommended if you smoke and are over 35, or if you have migraine with aura, because of clot and stroke risk.

Quick Self-Check

Answer a few quick questions. This isn't a diagnosis — a real pharmacist assessment is the next step either way.

How We Work

A Care365 online pharmacist consult in Ontario reviews your health history against the specific factors that rule certain methods in or out — clotting history, blood pressure control, migraine type, smoking, and cancer history among them — then helps you get started on the method that fits, whether that's a same-day prescription for the pill, patch, ring, or injection, or a referral for IUD or implant insertion.

Frequently Asked Questions

I get migraines with aura — can I still take the birth control pill?
Combined hormonal methods like the standard pill, patch, or ring aren't recommended if you have migraine with aura, because of an increased stroke risk. A progestin-only pill, the implant, an injection, or an IUD are safer alternatives to discuss.
What's the real difference between the hormonal IUD and the copper IUD?
The hormonal IUD (such as Mirena or Kyleena) also tends to lighten periods and cramping and lasts 5 to 8 years. The copper IUD has no hormones at all, lasts up to 10 years, and can even work as emergency contraception if inserted within 5 days of unprotected sex.
I smoke and I'm over 35 — what are my options?
Smoking 15 or more cigarettes a day at 35 or older raises clot risk enough that combined hormonal methods (pill, patch, ring) aren't recommended. Progestin-only options — the pill, implant, injection, or either IUD — don't carry that same restriction.
How effective is the pill compared to an IUD or implant?
With typical use, pills, patches, and rings fail more often simply because a dose gets missed or delayed. The implant and IUDs are over 99% effective because there's nothing to remember day to day once they're in place.
Can I get started the same day as my online consult?
Prescriptions for the pill, patch, ring, or injection can often be arranged the same day. An implant or IUD needs an in-person insertion appointment, which your pharmacist can help you arrange.
